What is Ashadha Amavasya?
Amavasya Tithi falling in the month of Ashadha is not celebrated as Ashadha Amavasya. According to the Hindu calendar, Ashadha is the fourth month of the Hindu year. As per the traditions, Ashadha Amavasya is a special day when people take bath in holy rivers or lakes, or ponds. On this occasion, charity is done for the ancestors. Ashadh Amavasya fast is also observed for the peace of the souls of the ancestors. It is believed that the importance of Ashadh Amavasya for Pitru Tarpan and Pind Daan is considered very great. On the day of Ashadha Amavasya, Deep Puja is a special practice performed by Hindus. This specific worship is largely dedicated to the Hindu deities of the Pancha Mahabhutas which represent the five elements air, water, fire, sky, and earth.

According to beliefs, on this day our dead ancestors or ancestors come to the earth and accept all our worship or offerings or donations done by us. Worshiping our ancestors on Ashadha Amavasya brings prosperity and peace to the person. It also frees them from any Pitra Dosha or Graha Dosha or Shani Dosha present in their birth chart. On Ashadha Amavasya rituals like tarpan, offering and donating food, or donating food to the hungry people fulfill all the wishes.
According to Garuda Purana, observing Ashadha Amavasya fast and performing Ashadha Amavasya Puja or donating on this day reduces all the doshas present in the birth chart of the native.
It is good to observe Amavasya fast and it is best to take bath in holy rivers or ponds or lakes and do tarpan work.
Worshiping the Peepal tree and lighting earthen lamps on the day of Ashadha Amavasya is the best remedy. It is believed that chanting mantras by lighting a lamp and worshiping the Peepal tree gives relief from all the troubles. Worshiping the ancestors or remembering their ancestors and feeding the needy people, the ancestors are pacified and their blessings are obtained.
Shiva Puja, Peepal Puja, Shani Shanti Puja, and Hanuman Puja should be done on the day of Ashadh Amavasya.
