The four-day festival begins on the shukla paksha chaturthi of Kartik Mas with nahay-khaya, which falls this time on Monday, November 8. On the day of nahay-khaya, vrati takes a dip in the Ganges or the nearby river, the pond and eats only once sattvik food. The panchami of Kartik Mas is also known as Kharna. On this day, vratis consume jaggery, arava rice kheer and roti khaata prasad in the evening. Then, on the third day, Lord Surya is given a longitude in the evening and on the fourth day, the rising sun. More importantly, on the day of Kharna, the vratis perform this fast for about 36 hours after receiving prasad in the evening, i.e., till they give half to the rising sun. During these four days, fasting is prohibited from eating pyaza, garlic or any kind of non-vegetarian food.

On the day of Kartik Shukla Shashti, a variety of dishes are prepared with purity in the house, of which Thekua is especially famous. Before sunset, all the dishes are taken to the ghat near The Flare in a bamboo basket. There is also a belief that the offering of a new crop is first offered in Chhath Puja. Therefore, sugarcane fruits are offered as prasad. Ghats 4.5 cans are erected and tied and lamps are lit under it. All the men and women who fast bathe in the water and lift these branches in their hands and give half to the shashti mata and lord sun. After sunset, everyone returns home. The next day, kartik shukla saptami, before sunrise, then place dishes, coconuts and fruits in the branches and gather all the time on the banks of the river and give the rising sun a longitude| The story of Chhath Vrat is then heard and after the story, the vratis break their fast by taking prasad.

Suits or sarees, two large bamboo baskets, bamboo or brass soup, a glass for milk and water, a lota and plate, 5 sugarcane leaves attached, sweet and suthani, betel nut, turmeric, radish and ginger green plant, big sweet lemon, sharifa, banana, pear, watery coconut, sweet, jaggery, wheat, Rice flour, thekua, rice, vermilion, lamp, honey and incense should be in Chhath Puja material.
