The festival of Kalashtami is dedicated to Lord Bhairav. This festival is celebrated on the Ashtami date of the Krishna Paksha of the Hindu lunar month. Ashtami Tithi of Krishna Paksha is considered to be the most suitable day to please Lord Kaal Bhairav. On this day, Hindu devotees worship Lord Bhairav and observe a fast to please him. A total of 12 Kalashtami are celebrated in a year. Of these, 'Margshirsha' is the most important one falling in the month and it is known as 'Kalbhairav Jayanti'. Kalashtami falling on Sunday or Tuesday is also considered special, as these days are dedicated to Lord Bhairav.
