Kalashtami is celebrated on the Ashtami date of Krishna Paksha.  This day is dedicated to the worship of Lord Kaal Bhairav.  That's why it is also called Kaal Bhairav Ashtami and Bhairav Ashtami.  It is celebrated 12 times a year.  It is said that Kaal Bhairav was born due to Lord Shankar's anger.  He is considered to be the fifth incarnation of Lord Shiva.  It is also mentioned in many places that Lord Shankar took this form to punish King Daksha Prajapati.

The Ashtami date of Krishna Paksha of Vaishakh month, the second month of the Hindu calendar, falls on Saturday, 23 April.  Therefore who will keep this fast on 23rd?  Ashtami Tithi will start at 6:27 am on 23rd April and end at 4:29 am on Sunday 24th April.
This day is crucial for the devotees of Lord Kaal Bhairav.  Devotees of Lord Kaal Bhairav worship Lord Kaal Bhairav on the Ashtami date of Krishna Paksha every month with full rituals and worship Lord Kaal Bhairav by fasting.  The Lord helps all His devotees in trouble and perfects all their works.  It is said that worshiping Lord Kaal Bhairav brings success in all results and improves the financial condition.

Those who want to keep fast on tomorrow wake up early in the morning, take a bath, and wear clean clothes.  After this, offer rice, rose flower coconut, sandalwood, milk, and dry fruits to Lord Kaal Bhairav, his favorite thing.  Mantras dedicated to Lord Shiva are chanted in the worship of Lord Kaal Bhairav so that you can chant any mantra devoted to Lord Shiva.  Ghee lamp is lit in the worship of all the deities, but keep in mind that mustard oil lamps and incense sticks are burned in the worship of Lord Kaal Bhairav.  After that, keep fast for the whole day, and during the fast, you have to follow Brahmacharya and do not consume any intoxicating substance like alcohol, tobacco, or non-vegetarian food.  After this, break your fast by giving water to the moon during the night.  Lord Kaal Bhairav soon becomes pleased with his devotees by worshiping in this way.
Dogs are considered to be the form of Lord Bhairav.  On the day of Kalashtami, giving sweet bread or raw milk to dogs gives the blessings of Lord Bhairav.  If possible, make the dogs present around you consume these things on this day.
