Parashuram had established this Shivling –
Due to being at a place called Pura and the establishment of this Shivling by Parashurama, this temple is known as Parshurameshwar Pura Mahadev Temple. This temple of Mahadev is in Baghpat district of UP. Parashurameshwara Temple is situated on the banks of the Hindon River. It is believed that at this place Parashuram's father Rishi Jamadagni along with his wife Renuka lived at the Parashurameshwar temple place. At the behest of his father, Parashurama beheaded his mother Renuka.
When Parashuram repented of his work, he established a Shivling of Shiva at this place and did severe penance for him. Pleased with the devotion of Mahadev Parashuram, he revived his mother. He gave an axe to Parashuram as a blessing. At one time Parshuram ji got angry and killed 21 Kshatriyas.
The queen had built the temple-
For some time, the beauty of this temple remained, but over time the form of this place changed. The whole temple turned into ruins, along with this the place where the Shivling was, got washed away. It remained like this for some time.
It is said that once the Queen Bhanumati went on a walk. When she was passing through that place, her elephant stopped near that temple and was not moving forward. Despite the efforts of the soldiers, the elephant did not move forward. Then Queen Bhanumati was very surprised. He got that place excavated.Shivling was found while excavating that mound. After which the queen got a grand temple established at that place.
