Life of Saint TukaramSaint Tukaram was born in Dehu; he lost his wife Rakhumbai and a son in the famine of 1629. His second wife was Jijabai. After the deaths of his first wife and son, Tukaram began to lose interest in household life, but he did not completely abandon his family. The work he did greatly influenced society.

Teachings of Saint TukaramTukaram spent most of his time in contemplation and study of the works of the famous saints Dnyaneshwar, Namdev, and Eknath. It is said that he received spiritual guidance from his guru, Raghav Chaitanya, in a dream. According to another version, Lord Vitthal himself appeared to him in a dream and inspired Tukaram to write devotional compositions. He made his creations the basis for ending the superstitions and evil practises going on in society. He composed many compositions on Bhakti. The credit for Abhang Kavya goes to him, and he tried to connect public life with devotion in his literature. Despite facing all kinds of opposition, he did not stop the auspicious works of life. While walking on the path of devotion, the only aim of his life was to continue doing beneficial works for the people.
