Shattila Ekadshi 2022: know here the auspicious timings , story and importance

Every year, Shattila Ekadshi is celebrated on Krishna Paksh Ekadashi of Magha month. On this day devotees worship Lord Vishnu and take a bath in holy rivers. Donating sesame seeds on the occassion of Shattila Ekadshi is considered auspicious.
New Delhi- The hindu scriptures contain a deep explanation of Shattila Ekadshi. It is believed that worshipping Lord Vishnu on the day of Shattila Ekadshi pleases him and leads to the fulfillment of the wishes of the devotees.

This year Shattila Ekadshi will be celebrated on 7 February. According to the custom, on the day of  Shattila Ekadshi, the devotees should take a dip in pious rivers. The devotees should break their fast only after listening to the Katha.

According to the mythological story, Narad Muni once came to Lord Vishnu and asked him about the importance of Shattila Ekadshi Vrat. Then Lord Vishnu told him the story about a Brahmin woman who lived a very long time  ago. The woman's husband had died and she was an ardent devotee of Lord Vishnu and used to worship him religiously. The woman kept fast for the entire month of Magha which made her physically and mentally pure. But she never really donated grains in her life. Because of her this deed she would remain unsatisfied upon reaching Baikunth Dham. Then one day Lord Vishnu himself went in front of the woman in disguise and begged her to give him something but the woman gave him a mass of clay.

Few days after that the woman died and passed on to Lord Vishnu's lok where she was given a hut to live. When she saw that her hut was completely empty she immediately went to Lord Vishnu and raised her concern. Lord Vishnu asked her to keep the doors of her hut closed until the Dev Kanyas tell her the procedure of Shattila Ekadshi. Few days later when one Dev kanya told her the procedure, she observed the fast of Shattila Ekadshi exactly as told. By doing so, the woman got blessed and her hut got filled with grains and money.
