- Never offer water using a Conch
Lord Shiva defeated a demon named Shankhchud. The conch is considered a symbol of the same demon, who was a devotee of Lord Vishnu. That is why Lord Vishnu is worshiped with a conch, not Shiva.
- Do not offer Tulsi Leaves
Lord Vishnu has accepted Tulsi as his wife. That is why Lord Shiva is not worshiped with Tulsi.
- Do not offer sesame seeds or anything made of sesame seeds
It is believed to have originated from the body scrub of Lord Vishnu, so it should not be offered to Lord Shiva.
It is written in the scriptures about offering whole rice to Lord Shiva. Broken rice is incomplete and impure, so it does not reach Shiva.
- Lord Shiva does not like Kumkum
Kumkum (red turmeric powder) is a symbol of good luck, whereas Lord Shiva is a recluse, so Kumkum is not offered to Shiva.
