British rulers expelled him from his village
Shraddharam Phillauri was a religious preacher, astrologer, freedom fighter, musician and a famousauthor of Hindi and Punjabi. He was born on 30 September 1837 in Phillaur village of Ludhiana, Punjab. It is said that Shraddharam Phillauri used to organize a public awareness campaign against the British rule by gathering crowds in his story and used to arouse the burning flames of revolution inside the countrymen. He had created a rebellious atmosphere against the British rule through his books. While narrating the stories of Mahabharata, he used to arouse the courage of the people to stand against the British. Because of this, the British government got irritated with him and in the year 1865, he was expelled from his own village. In addition to this, his entry was banned in the neighbouring villages too.
This is how the Aarti was composed
It is said that in 1870, after being expelled from the village, he composed 'Om Jai Jagdish Hare Aarti'. An interesting tale is also told related the composition of this Aarti. In fact, at that time, Pandit ji used to roam in different places of Punjab and tell the Ramayana, Mahabharata and Bhagwat Katha to the people. Once Panditji realized that people do not come at the right time to listen to his lectures. He thought that in such a situation, singing a good Aarti or prayer can attract people's attention and will generate more interest in his lectures. It was only after this that Shraddharam Phillauri wrote Om Jai Jagdish Hare Aarti dedicated to Narayan.
In this way the Aarti became popular in every household
During the Bhagwat Katha, ShraddharamPhillauri used to sing this Om Jai Jagdish Hare Aarti. Due to this, his popularity increased rapidly and people started inviting him in satsang from all parts of the country. The words of this Aarti increased the devotion of the people far more. While singing and listening to each other, this Aartiwidespread and graduallybecame popular in every household.

It is said that Pandit Shraddharam Phillauri was very meritorious since childhood. He studied in Gurmukhi till the age of seven. At the age of ten, he started studying Sanskrit, Hindi, Persian and astrology and within a few years he became a learned man of all these subjects. Pandit Shraddharam Phillauri is considered to be the author of the first novel of Hindi literature, Bhagyavati. Apart from this, he also composed many compositions. On 24 June 1881, this great personality bid goodbye to the whole world.
