This year, Somvati Amavasya is being observed in the month of Chaitra. Actually, the Amavasya date which falls on Monday is called Somvati Amavasya. This date is very important in Hinduism. This Somvati Amavasya is taking place on 12th April,2021. According to the Puranas, bathing and doing charity are of great significance on Somvati Amavasya. It is very fruitful to bath in the Ganga or any other holy river or water body on this day. But due to Corona epidemic this year, if it is not possible to snack in the rivers, then before the sunrise at home, you can make a bath by putting Ganga water in the bath water. It is believed that on Somvati Amavasya day, if a person does some religious work, then the sufferings of his life are removed.

Amavasya Date starts – 11th April,2021, on Sunday from 06:05 AM in the morning.
Amavasya Date ends – 12th April,2021, Monday at 08:00 AM.
Worship method of Chaitra Amavasya:
- Wake up early in the morning on Chaitra Amavasya.
- On this day, take a bath in a holy river, reservoir or pool etc. in Brahma Muhurta.
- Offer water to Sun God at sunrise.
- On this day, offer rituals to your ancestors.
- Keep fast for the peace of the ancestors.
- Donate to the needy on this day.
- Offer food to Brahmins.
According to Hindu belief, Amavasya Tithi is dedicated to the ancestors. Hence, on this day keeping fast is observed for the peace of the souls of the ancestors. Especially for those who are suffering from ancestor’s faults (Pitra dosh), Amavasya fast is important for the prevention of this fault. At the same time, like the Amavasya of the other month, it is considered best to offer the ancestors on the day of Chaitra Amavasya. By doing this, the ancestors get freedom.
Astrological Significance of Chaitra Amavasya:
On Amavasya Tithi, Sun and Moon are in the same zodiac. While the Sun signifies an igneous element, the Moon is a symbol of coolness. Under the influence of the Sun, the effect of the Moon becomes zero. Therefore, it is an effective day to concentrate the mind. Therefore, the day of Amavasya is ideal for spiritual thinking. There is a lunar fault in the horoscope of the person born on Amavasya.
Chaitra Amavasya is the last day of the Hindu year:
Chaitra Amavasya is the last day of Vikram Samvat year. Vikram Samvant is also known as Hindu calendar in common language. After the end of Chaitra Amavasya Tithi, Chaitra Shukla Pratipada Tithi comes which is the first day of the Hindu year. It is said that Brahma Ji created this world on the day of Chaitra Shukla Pratipada. Navratri also starts from the first date of the Hindu year.
