Lamps are of various types, such as silver lamps, earthen lamps, iron lamps, copper lamps, lamps made of brass metal and lamps made from flour. Let us know which lamp is lit for what and what is the benefit of lighting a lamp with how many lights.

1. One-lit lamp: This is a common lamp which is lit to worship the Ishtadev. For the worship of any deity, pure ghee of cow and a flower lamp or a lamp of sesame oil must be lit.
2. Two-lighted lamp: Two-faced lamp should be lit at the time of worship of Bhagwati Jagdamba Durga Devi and at the time of worship of Goddess Saraswati and for attainment of education.
3. Ghee lamp with three lights: To get the blessings of Lord Ganesha, a three-lighted ghee lamp should be lit daily.
4. Four-lighted mustard oil lamp: Four-faced mustard oil lamp should be lit to please Lord Bhairav. By doing this remedy, all the troubles of a person's life gets disappeared.
5. Five-lighted lamp: To win a case, a five-faced lamp should be lit in front of God. Lord Kartikeya is pleased by this.
6. Seven-faced lamp: For the blessings of Goddess Lakshmi, we should light a seven-faced lamp in front of her. Do this always on Diwali.
7. Eight or twelve-faced lamp: Eight or twelve-faced lamp of ghee or mustard oil should be lit to please Lord Shiva.
8. Ten-faced lamp: Light a ten-faced lamp for the worship of Dashavatar.
9. Sixteen faced lamp: To please Lord Vishnu, a lamp of sixteen lights should be lit daily in front of him.

Other 10 types of lamps:

1. Flour lamp: For any kind of sadhna or accomplishment, a lamp made of flour is made and considers it the best to worship.
2. Ghee lamp: To get rid of financial crisis, a lamp of pure ghee should be lit daily in the temple of the house. The gods and goddesses are also pleased with this. Pure cow's ghee or sesame oil is also used for lighting the Akhand Jyot in the Ashram and Devalaya.
3. Mustard oil lamp: To avoid enemies, a mustard oil lamp should be lit in Bhairavji's temple. Mustard lamp is also lit to please the Sun God.
4. Sesame oil lamp: To get rid of the calamity of the planet Saturn, a lamp of sesame oil should be lit. The gods and goddesses are also pleased with this.
5. Lamp of Mahua oil: To fulfill the wish of husband's long life, lamp of Mahua oil should be lit in the temple of the house.
6. Linseed(Alasee) oil lamp: To pacify the condition of planets Rahu and Ketu, linseed oil lamp should be lit.
7. Three-cornered lamp filled with jasmine oil: To worship Hanumanji and to always have his blessings on you, a three-cornered lamp should be lit.
8. Deep and round lamp: Light a dark and round lamp for Ishta Siddhi or for attaining knowledge.
9. The lamp raised upwards from the middle: To avoid the enemies or to overcome any objection, the lamp raised upwards from the middle should be lit.
10. Giloy's lamp: Giloy's lamp should be lit for the longevity of one's husband.
