In a recent report related to this, a scientist from the government panel has answered all the important questions related to the third wave.
- Manindra Aggarwal, a scientist on the government panel on modelling Covid-19 cases, says that a possible third wave of Covid-19 may reach its peak in October-November this year if preventive measures are not used already.
- However, like the second wave, this time the possibility of a jump in daily cases of the coronavirus is not as high. The severity of the third wave of corona can be stopped only if from now on all the people strictly follow the covid-appropriate behaviour.
- A special panel was set up by the Department of Science and Technology last year to forecast the rise in coronavirus cases using mathematical models. Manindra Agarwal is part of the same panel. Besides Agarwal, M Vidyasagar of IIT-Hyderabad and Deputy Chief (Medical) of the Integrated Defence Staff Lt Gen Madhuri Kanitkar are also members of the panel.

Cases of infection can increase rapidly:

- Manindra Aggarwal says, we have made three scenarios regarding the third wave. In the first, we expect that life will be back to normal by August and there will be no new mutations in the virus.
- In the second, we are assuming that it may prove to be 20 percent less effective than what is expected regarding vaccination. In the third scenario, we are assuming that there may be another mutation in the virus by August which will make it more contagious. We are working on the basis of all these three conditions.
How many cases can come daily in the third wave?
- Sharing the graph in another tweet, government panel scientist Manindra says that the effect of the second wave is likely to end by mid-August, while the possible third wave may reach its peak between October and November.
- In such a situation, during the third wave, daily between one and a half to two lakh cases of corona infection can be reported. In this regard, health organizations should do all the preparations from now onwards, so that there is no sudden burden.
The Vaccination campaign will have to be intensified:
- In the event of a new mutation in the virus, scientist Manindra says that this condition can cause the rapid spread of the corona. However, the good thing is that the possibility of a second wave-like situation this time is very less.
- Emphasizing on vaccination process, Manindra says, this can prove to be the most effective weapon in providing protection from the third wave. As vaccination progresses, the likelihood of a third or fourth wave will decrease.
- It is extremely important to vaccinate as many people as possible in the country before the third wave arrives.
