Know the history of the ancient Hanuman temple of Lucknow (Aliganj)
The exact date of this temple is not available, but it is more than 500 years old temple. The rulers changed the name from 'Hanuman Bari' to 'Islam Bari.' Begum Rabia, the wife of Nawab Mohammad Ali Shah, played an essential role in constructing this temple. Begum Rabia is said to have seen an idol of Lord Hanuman hidden in a garden one night in a dream. So he got advice to install this idol in the temple. After some time, Begum Rabia got the blessings of Hanuman Ji and gave birth to a child. Then the Nawab ordered the building of this beautiful temple. After the temple's restoration, a crescent and star were installed on the temple's tower during the period of Begum, for which written evidence is also available. You can also see the moon-shaped structure on the Kalash at the top of the temple. This makes it one of the most incredible places to visit in Lucknow.

Purana Hanuman Mandir Aliganj is one of the top Hanuman temples in Lucknow. This is the most famous Hanuman Ji temple in Lucknow. A moon-shaped circle is installed at the top of the temple. Hence it is also called Chand Tara Temple. The idol of Lord Hanuman located in the old Hanuman temple was now demanded to be established at some other place. What happened next was even more shocking. When the elephant carrying the idol to the temple stopped in its tracks, sat down, and refused to move even an inch, everyone was astounded—repeated attempts to get it restarted proved to be ultimately futile. The matter came to a standstill until a saint intervened and suggested the construction of a temple at the same place. After that, not only was the temple built, but a plot of land was also provided for its maintenance.

One place in the temple that reflects this style quite strongly is its tomb with a crescent on top, which is commonly found in mosques. It is a reminder of the spirit of tolerance, love, and brotherhood that has prevailed in the region for centuries. The temple complex has a pond as well as a garden. The temple pillars painted in saffron color enhance its overall aesthetic appeal. The temple's architecture is magnificent, and there are three entrance gates to get to the darshan of Hanuman Ji. The main entrance is stunning, and there are many carved idols of famous sage munis (sages) at the main entrance. Carved idols of Lord Ganesha and Bharat Mata have also been made at the top center of the opening. This Hanuman temple faces north.
