According to the story of Vishnu, the woman of Purani, a demon named Bhasmasura had performed Mahadev’s penance and found a boon that the one whom he placed his hand would be consumed. After receiving the boon once Bhasmasura ran after Lord Shiva. Fearing Bhasmasura, Mahadeva hid in these bushes on the banks of Narmada river and then Lord Vishnu took the form of a woman and fraudulently placed Bhasmasura’s hand on himself. Bhasmasura was burnt into ashes with his own blessings and from then onwards Bhole Bhandari came to be called as Lukeshwar.
