Shri Krishna Janmashtami 2021 : Know the merits of worshipping Krishna on his special day

Read on to know the story behind why 56 bhog is offered to Lord Krishna.
As we know Shri Krishna used to live in Gokul along with Mata Yashoda and Nandlal and was loved by everyone. Mata Yashoda showered him with love and took extra care of his beloved. She used to feed Krishna 8times a day with her own hands.
Once, the people of the village were preparing for a puja to please Lord Indra, the God of rain. To this Krishna asked his father why people are preparing for the puja. His father replied that after this puja Lord Indra will be pleased and will shower us with rain and his blessings.
Shri Krishna made the people of Gokul realize that Lord Indra must shower rain, it is his duty. They all should worship is Goverdhan parvat (गोवर्धन पर्वत), as it provides them fruits and vegetables and is home to so many animals.
Villagers agreed to this and started to worship the parvat, this angered Lord Indra and took this as his disrespect.
Lord Indra in his rage, showered heavy rains in the village. The whole of the village was flooded with water. Animals and people were getting drowned. To save them all, Shri Krishna lifted up the Goverdhan Parvat for continuous seven days on his little finger, without eating anything. Everyone, humans or animals came under the parvat to save their lives.
On the eighth day, Indra realized his mistake and stopped the rain. After that only, Krishna put downed the parvat. Villagers thought that their beloved Krishna must be hungry and it us their duty to take care of him as he saved their life.
