There are many legendary miraculous and mysterious temples in India. Kamakhya Temple is one of such ancient miraculous temples, this temple is located about 8 km from Guwahati near Dispur, which is the capital of Assam. This unique temple is specially dedicated to Mata Sati. This temple is the most significant of the 51 Shaktipeeths of Mata Sati. in this Mahapeeth, Mother Sati's vagina and womb had fallen. Therefore, during the 17th century on the Nilachal mountain, King Nara Narayana built this holy temple of the goddess. The name of this temple is Kamakhya which is another name of Goddess Durga. Apart from this, this temple is the stronghold of Aghoris and Tantriks.
 
Significance of this place
 As per the legends, when Mata Sati married lord shiva, Sati's father (King Daksha) was not happy with the marriage. Once, when King Daksha organized a Yagya, he did not invite lord Shiva, because of which mata Sati got angry and went to her father's house without being called. Where Lord Shiva was insulted by King Daksha, Sati got angry & could not hear that, she jumped into the fire of the Havan Kund. When Lord Shiva came to know about this, he reached there and picked up the burning body of Sati Mata in his lap and he started doing tandav. To stop lord shiva, Lord Vishnu threw the Sudarshan Chakra, due to which the body of the mother was cut into 51 parts and fell at different places of the earth. Mother's vagina and womb had fallen at this place.

Why is this temple unique?
 The idols of the goddesses are worshiped in almost every temple, but the unique thing about this divine temple is that there is no idol or picture of Goddess Durga in the sanctum. There is only Mahamudra i.e. Yoni Kund of Mata Bhagwati which is situated in the temple & is always covered with flowers. The special thing is that water always flows out of this pool and the pool is made in the form of a vagina which is worshipped there. There is also a ritual of sacrificing animals in this temple. But no female animal is sacrificed here.

 Ambuvachi Yoga festival, which falls once a year, is like a blessing for all the tantriks all over the world. this is celebrated in the month of June as per the date of Ashadh. This festival is devoted to Mata Sati, in which the goddess sati goes through a menstrual cycle for three days. And the doors of the temple remain closed for three days. Every year during this festival the water of the Brahmaputra river turns red for three days and blood flows from the yoni pith located in the sanctum. It is said that when the mother is going through her menstrual cycle, a white-colored cloth is spread inside the temple, which turns out red with the blood of the mother after the doors of the temple are opened.
