The 'Kanwar Yatra' is an annual pilgrimage of Lord Shiva's devotees known as Kanvarias.
Every year during this time of the Hindu calendar month of 'Sawan', thousands of devotees from across India, undertake the pilgrimage called 'Kanwar Yatra' with utmost excitement and devotion. These pilgrims visit Haridwar, Gaumukh, and Gangotri in Uttarakhand and Sultanganj in Bihar to fetch the holy waters of river Ganga. Later, the holy water is dispensed as offerings to Lord Shiva in temples.

Since the Haridwar Kumbh in the initial phase of the second wave of Corona, the government is taking additional precautions. Keeping in view the threat of the third wave of Corona, the government has banned the Kanwar Yatra this year. The government has also asked the devotees not to come to Haridwar this time and offer water on Shivratri only in the Shivalayas of their respective places.
