But if the property has been divided among the sons and they live separately then each one of them should perform the shradh. Everyone who follows santandharama should perform shradh for the three generations, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. They should also perform shradh for their maternal grandfather and grandmother.
Apart from these, it is also mentioned in scriptures that one should perform shradh of their teachers, guru, father in law, paternal and maternal uncle, brother, brother in law, nephew, disciple, son, friend, maternal grandfather, and of their wives. Shradh of all the deceased people should be performed on their “Punyatithi” or on their death tithi or date. Death of date means the “tithi'' as per Hindu Calendar, on which the deceased person took their last breath, On the same date or tithi the shradh should be performed during 12:30 pm to 1:00 pm. If you are not aware of their tithi then perform shradh on all “Pitra Amavasya”.

More Information Related To Shradh :
- Those people who have died from natural causes on “Chaturdashi”, their shradh should never be performed on chaturdashi but on Trayodashi or Amavasya.
- Those people who died because of unnatural causes like from accident, snake bite, poison, suicide, murder or due to some other reason like that then their shradh should never be performed on the tithi of death. Their shradh should be performed only on chaturdashi irrespective of the tithi they died on.
- Shradh of those women who died married or without being widowed, their shradh should be performed on the navmi tithi only even if they have died on some other tithi.
- Shradh of “Sanyasis” should be performed only on dwadashi of pitru paksh.
- Shradh of maternal grandfather and grandmother should be performed only on Ashwin Shukla Pratipada irrespective of the tithi they died on.
- Those who died due to natural causes, their shradh should be performed only on shukla purnima of Bhadrapada or on Amavasya of Ashwin Krishna.
