Uttarakhand is also known as Dev Bhoomi. There are a lot of temples in every street here. According to Hindu religion, there are 33 crore gods and goddesses, but in Uttarakhand this number becomes even more, because here there is a recognition of land deities to cowl deities, village deities and clan deities. This is the land where the 'villain' of Mahabharata Duryodhana and Danveer Karna are also worshipped.

This land of Sarnaul and Saur village is the land of a great warrior named Bhubruvahan. It is believed that the king of Patalloka, Bhubruvahan wanted to be a part of the Mahabharata war between the Kauravas and the Pandavas in Dwapar Yuga. He came to earth with this desire in his mind, but Lord Krishna very cleverly removed him from the war. Bhubruvahana wanted to join the battle on the side of Kauravas and Krishna feared that Bhubruvahana might challenge Arjuna. So he gave a challenge to Bhubruvahan.

Krishna challenged Bhubruvahana to pierce all the leaves of a tree with a single arrow, meanwhile Krishna plucked a leaf and buried it under his foot. Bhubruvahana's arrow was moving towards Krishna's feet after piercing all the leaves on the tree, when he withdrew his leg. Krishna somehow wanted to keep Bhubruvahana away from the war and asked him to be neutral. To be neutral meant to stay away from war and to stay away from the war of Mahabharata is not acceptable to any warrior, so Krishna found a way to overcome Bhubruvahana. They somehow severed Bhubruvahan's head from his torso.

Although Krishna beheaded Bhubruvahana before the start of the war, he expressed his desire to see the war and Lord Krishna fulfilled his wish. He hung the head of Bhubruvahan on a tree here and he saw the entire war of Mahabharata from here. Local people say that whenever the Kauravas' strategy failed in the Mahabharata war, whenever they had to face defeat, Bhubruvahan used to shout loudly and ask them to change the strategy. He used to cry and is still crying today.

It is also a belief that from these tears of Bhubruvahan, a river named Tamas or Tons has been formed here. This is the reason that even today no one drinks the water of this river. Both Duryodhana and Karna were great admirers of Bhubruvahan. The local people still salute his bravery and songs are sung in his praise. The people here have built temples of Bhubruvahan's friend Karna and Duryodhana. Duryodhana's temple is in Saur village, while Karna's temple is in Sarnaul village. Not only this, both of them also became the zonal of this area.
