Origin of Lohri
Many stories and beliefs related to Lohri festival have been prevalent, some people believe that Lohri is named after Loi, the wife of Saint Kabir, while some people also believe that this word comes from the word 'Lohri'. Which means light and heat of fire. Another story is related to Prahlad in which the description of Holika's sister Lohri is also received and Lohri festival is celebrated in her name. Traditionally, the festival of Lohri celebrates the beginning of the harvest season in Punjab and is celebrated to thank nature and God before beginning the harvesting of crops. It is also believed that the night of Lohri is the longest night of the year and according to the lunar calendar, it marks the winter solstice. This festival also marks the end of the coldest month of the year.
