The festival of Anant Chaturdashi is celebrated on the Chaturdashi of Shukla Paksha of Bhadrapada month. On this day there is a law to worship the infinite God who is considered to be the form of Shri Vishnu. On this day an infinite thread is tied in the hands which can be made of cotton or silk and consists of fourteen knots. Ganesh Visarjan is also done on the day of Anant Chaturdashi, so the importance of this festival increases even more. This festival is celebrated with pomp in many states of India. During this, religious tableaux are taken out at many places and devotees celebrate this festival with enthusiasm.

This year Anant Chaturdashi will be celebrated on 9th September. Anant Chaturdashi is the day when Lord Ganesha travels back to Mount Kailash. On Anant Chaturdashi, the idols of Lord Ganesha are immersed and with this the ten-day long Ganpati festival comes to an end. Satyanarayana, an infinite form of Lord Vishnu, is also worshiped by Hindus on this day.

Many stories are associated with this day, especially in the Mahabharata. It is believed that Lord Krishna had asked Pandava king Yudhishthira to fast on the day of Anant Chaturdashi. It is believed that the Pandavas won the war against the Kauravas because of their fasting. As per the customs and traditions of Anant Chaturdashi, the devotee who observes fast on this day is blessed with Lord Ganesha and Lord Vishnu.

Anant Chaturdashi Puja Vidhi
On Anant Chaturdashi, one should get up in Brahma Muhurta and complete his daily tasks. After that, devotees should place a brass kalash on a red cloth in the east direction of the house. It should include water, milk and betel nut. Ashoka leaves and coconut should also be kept on the Kalash. This brass vase is known as Anant Kalash. Place Kumkum, Saffron and Turmeric on Anant Kalash. Devotees also have to prepare an infinite sutra consisting of 14 knots. The Anant Sutra and the lamp should be lit around the Anant Kalash. After this, the story and worship of Lord Satyanarayan should also be done. Home-made bhog should be offered to God. Jaggery should be mixed in the bhog. Offering bhog to the cow while praying to Satyanarayana. One should wear Anantha Sutra on his wrist while performing this ritual. The festival of Anant Chaturdashi ends all kinds of troubles.
