 Govardhan Puja is also known as Annakoot.  Anna Koot which is a special prasad is made in the form of Annakoot on the day of Govardhan Puja.  An offering of food is made and offered to Shri Krishna.  This bhog is made by mixing many vegetables, this prasad has special significance.  This year Anna Koot Puja is not going to happen on the second day of Diwali because of solar eclipse.  In such a situation, this festival is being celebrated on the third day of Diwali i.e. 26 October.  Shri Krishna is worshiped on this day and the story of Govardhan Parvat is remembered, how Krishna protected the people of Vraja.  Let us know what is the grain and which vegetables are used in it.

 Various types of vegetables are included in making Annakoot.  Although on this day not only vegetables but curries, rice and many types of dishes are made in Annakoot, but Annakoot Prasad is very special.  Many types of vegetables are used to make it.  Potato, arbi, brinjal, radish, tomato, raw banana, beans, legumes, cabbage, peas, carrots and desi greens, spices, curry spices, ginger paste are used.  Specially prepare this prasad, which is distributed among the devotees after offering it to the Lord Krishna.

 Annakoot Puja Tradition

 The day after Diwali, Govardhan Puja also known as Annakoot is celebrated.  According to the Hindu calendar, this puja is performed on Kartik Shukla Pratipada.  The tradition of this worship is associated with Shri Krishna.  This worship, which has been going on since ancient times, is present in its strong form even today.  Govardhan Puja involves making Annakoot and cow dung is used to make the figure of Govardhan.  Govardhan Puja is considered incomplete without parikrama.

 Annakoot Puja Significance

 Although the enthusiasm of Annakoot worship is seen all over India, but in Mathura and its surrounding areas, this festival has a special significance.  According to the legends, Lord Shri Krishna presented the specialty of worshiping Prakriti to everyone on this day and Lord Krishna defeated Indra on this day.  According to the legend, Lord Indra got angry when Shri Krishna asked the people of Braj to worship Govardhan mountain and cows.  After this Indra made such torrential rain in his anger that the life of the people of Braj became dangerous.  Then Shri Krishna lifted the Govardhan mountain with his little finger to protect the Brajwasis and the animals.  Everyone took shelter under this mountain for seven days.  This is the reason that during Govardhan Puja people make this mountain out of cow dung and circumambulate it seven times.  After this, Bhog of Annakoot is offered.
