Apara Ekadashi 2021: Every eleventh date of Shukla Paksha and Krishna Paksha of the Hindi panchang calendar is called Ekadashi. There are a total of 24 Ekadashis in a year. Lord Vishnu is worshipped with full devotion on the day of Ekadashi. According to the beliefs, just as Pradosh Vrat is dear to Lord Shiva, similarly Ekadashi is liked by Lord Vishnu.

Ekadashi tithi is in the Krishna Paksha of Jyeshtha month is known as Apara Ekadashi. On this day people keep fast and pray to God. The story of Apara Ekadashi fast is heard at the time of worship, it completes the worship and also gives freedom from sin.

Apara Ekadashi 2021: Significance

The term 'Apar' means 'a lot' or 'limitless'. On this day, devotees worshipped Lord Vishnu with Dhoop, sandalwood paste, fruits, incense sticks, and flowers in order to evoke the deity.

It is believed that the one who observes an Apara Ekadashi Vrat can easily get rid of their past and present sins and can attain a path of goodness and positivity.

Apara Ekadashi 2021: Fasting Story

In ancient times there was a godly king named Mahidhwaj. His younger brother Vajradhwaja was very cruel and unrighteous. The younger brother wanted to kill the elder brother. One day in the night he killed his elder brother Mahidhwaj. He buried his dead body under a peepal tree in the forest.

Due to premature death, the king started living on the same peepal in the form of a spirit. Being a spirit, he started torturing there. One day when a sage named Dhaumya passed from that Peepal tree, he saw Mahidwaj ghost. The sage understood the story why he became ghost with his tenacity. After knowing everything, the sage brought down his ghost from the peepal tree and give him the  knowledge of afterlife.

The kind sage himself fasted on Apara Ekadashi to get king free form pret yoni , as a result of which the king got freedom from the pret yoni. He thanked the sage and went to heaven.
