The effect of Rahu-Ketu on the planets is considered to give extremely bad and painful results. Ashtami day is considered very useful for Bhairav and Rahu Ketu Shanti. During this time all the sufferings of the devotees are removed. Ashtami is believed to be related to Goddess Durga and Bhairav Puja. When we worship them on this day, many negativities start going away from us. In Vedic astrology, Rahu and Ketu are considered shadow planets and illusion planets. Whatever planet they are with, they increase their effect manifold. They are considered negative, that's why only Rahu and Ketu are considered the most while looking at any horoscope. If Rahu-Ketu is inauspicious in a person's horoscope, then the whole life of that person goes in vain. Now, if these two planets are to be controlled, then worshipping Bhairav along with worshipping Goddess is said to give favourable results.

According to astrology, when these two planets are inauspicious, then one should go to the shelter of Bhairav or worship the Goddess. Apart from this, the Ashtami which falls during Adhikamas is also considered very auspicious. There are some measures mentioned in the scriptures, by which the planet gets peace. On the day of Ashtami, making papad or pakoras of urad dal should be offered to Bhairav and kept there in the temple. This bhog made for God can also be distributed among the poor in the form of Prasad. Durga Kavach should be recited on this day or Bhairav Aarti must be performed.
On the day of Ashtami, Jalebi should be offered to Lord Bhairav and Goddess Durga.
