Bhadrapada Purnima Puja
On Bhadrapada Purnima, Hindu devotees get up early in the morning and after retiring from their daily activities, they engage in the works of worship. Taking bath in holy rivers like Ganga, Yamuna and Narmada on this day is considered very fruitful. It is believed that a person who takes a Bhadrapada Purnima bath gets the divine blessings of Lord Vishnu. Satyanarayan Puja is organized on this day. The idol of Lord Satyanarayana is given a holy 'Panchamrit Snan'. Devotees offer bhog in the form of fruits, flowers and sweets to Lord Satyanarayana.
After worship, the recitation of Satyanarayan Katha is very important . According to the belief, reciting Satyanarayan Katha at home or even visiting someone's house on invitation is considered very auspicious.
Devotees also recite other stories dedicated to Lord Vishnu along with Lord Brahma, Lord Shiva and Goddess Lakshmi on Bhadrapada Purnima. Most of the devotees also observe a fast on this day which is known as Bhadrapada Purnima Vrat. There has also been a law to fast on the full moon day of Bhadrapada month. The evening ends after Satyanarayan Katha.
The person observing the fast should not eat pulses, grains and salt. Milk-curd, nuts and fruits are allowed to be eaten during this fast. The day of Bhadrapada Purnima is also suitable for performing 'Maha Mrityunjay Havan'. The person who performs this havan with full devotion on this day gets freedom from all the negativity in his life. Donating clothes and food to Brahmins or the needy on Bhadrapada Purnima also has significance. Donations made on this day are highly fruitful.
