According to the Hindu religion, Gautama Buddha is considered to be the 9th incarnation of Lord Shri Vishnu.

How did he achieve enlightenment?
According to Hindu scriptures, Buddha left home at the age of 29 to start a life of renunciation. He underwent hard penance under a peepal tree for about 6 years.
It was on the day of Vaishakh Purnima that Lord Buddha attained the knowledge of truth under the Peepal tree. The place where Lord Buddha attained enlightenment was later called Bodh Gaya.

After this, Mahatma Buddha spread the light of his knowledge throughout the world and created new energy.
Mahatma Buddha's Mahaparinirvana took place on the day of Vaishakha Purnima at the age of 80 in Kushinagar.
Lord Gautama Buddha’s birth, attainment of the knowledge of the truth, and Mahaparinirvana occurred on the same day i.e. Vaishakh Purnima.
For this reason, Buddha Purnima is celebrated on the full moon day in the month of Vaishakh.

Where is the Buddha Jayanti celebrated:
Apart from India, Buddha Jayanti is celebrated on full moon day in many countries of the world like China, Nepal, Singapore, Vietnam, Thailand, Japan, Cambodia, Malaysia, Sri Lanka, Myanmar, Indonesia, etc. Bodh Gaya located in Bihar is also considered a sacred religious place for Hindus including the followers of Buddha.
A fair is held for about a month on the occasion of Buddha Purnima in Kushinagar. However, the state of lockdown continues due to the Corona epidemic. That is why the fair may not be organized this year. In some countries like Sri Lanka, this festival is celebrated as the Vaishakh festival.Buddhist followers light lamps in their homes and decorate homes on this day. On this day Buddhist scriptures are recited.

Freedom from mental illnesses:
Lord Buddha is considered to be the 9th incarnation of Lord Shri Vishnu in Northern India. However, Buddha is not considered an incarnation of Vishnu in South India. In south India, Balarama is considered the 8th avatar of Vishnu and Shri Krishna as the 9th avatar. Followers of Buddhism also do not consider Buddha to be an incarnation of Lord Vishnu. It is believed that on Buddha Purnima special energy comes into the atmosphere.
