Chhath festival is considered very special for getting children and wishing for their happiness. According to the story of Chhath festival, King Priyavrata and his wife had no children. Due to this, both the king and his wife were always sad. The king and his wife reached Maharishi Kashyap to fulfill the child's wish.Maharishi Kashyap performed a yajna to produce a child for him and as a result Priyavrata's wife became pregnant, nine months later, the queen gave birth to a son, but he was born dead. Seeing this, Priyavrata and the queen were very sad. Due to the grief of the child, the king made up his mind to commit suicide by sacrificing his life in the crematorium along with his son. As the king tried to give up his life, a goddess appeared, which was Devasena.
The goddess told the king that she was born from the sixth part of the original nature of the universe. She said, "I am Goddess Shashthi. If you worship me and inspire others to do the same, then I will surely give you the happiness of children. On the day of Shashthi Tithi of Kartik Shukla Paksha, the king obeyed the orders of Goddess Shashthi. Worshiping Goddess Shashthi by observing fast with full rituals and worshiping Goddess Shashti and by the grace of Goddess Shashti, the king got a son in the form of a child.
