Chhath Puja is a festival lasting for four days. This is a very rigorous and full of dedication festival. In this festival which lasts for four days, the first day is celebrated as Nahay-Khay. The time of bathing and eating will be on 17th November. A person observing fast in Nahay Khay wears clean new clothes after taking a bath in the river etc. early in the morning. The second day of the Chhath festival is called Kharna. On the day of Kharna, sweet food is eaten once and after that salt is not eaten on this day.
The third day of the Chhath festival is known as Sandhya Arghya. Arghya is offered to the Sun in the evening and on this day thousands of devotees stand in the ghats and rivers and offer Arghya to the setting Sun. The last and fourth day of the Chhath festival concludes with worshipping the rising sun and offering Arghya. On this day, after the puja, the fast is completed and the devotees get the blessings of Chhathi Maiya.
