Hari Prabodhini Ekadashi fast is observed on the Ekadashi date of Shukla Paksha of Kartik month. Ekadashi means extinguishing sins with the virtuous bonds of fasting. According to the Puranas, devotees attain happiness by worshipping and chanting Lord Vishnu. Goodness resides in life. A clean heart and good thoughts develop. During the Mahabharata period, Lord Krishna told Dharmaraja Yudhishthir about the importance of this Ekadashi. Importance of Hariprabodhini Ekadashi
All the fasts of Ekadashi have their own importance in the Hindu religion. But amidst all this, fasting on Hariprabodhini Ekadashi benefits not only yourself but also others. Lord Vishnu is worshipped on this Ekadashi. This fast helps a person to become pure from the heart and frees him from all sins. The person becomes free from all the sins of his parents as well as his beloved. This fast brings results similar to Ashwamedha Yagya and Surya Yagya. By observing this fast, all the bad effects of the nine planets are eliminated and the devotee attains Vaikuntha Dham. If a person commits any mistake knowingly or unknowingly in the month of Kartik, then by observing a fast on this day he gets forgiveness for his mistakes.

Hariprabodhini Ekadashi puja method
Those who observe fast on Hariprabodhini Ekadashi have to follow the rituals a day before i.e. from Dashami Tithi. On the day of Dashami, seven types of grains like wheat, urad, moong, gram, barley, rice and pulses should be avoided. On the day of Ekadashi, one should wake up early in the morning, take a bath, wear clean clothes, keep water in hand and take a resolution to fast. After taking the resolution, establish Ghatasthapana. To perform Ghatasthapana, the idol of Lord Vishnu should be installed on the Kalash. While worshipping Lord Vishnu with all your heart, you should offer incense, lamp, coconut, fruits, flowers etc. In the worship of Lord Vishnu, a Tulsi leaf must be kept and Tulsi puja should be performed.
