The goddess is depicted in the form of Vaidvaya.  This form of power is also very important.  As a widow, she is the power that exists without Shiva. Therefore, she manifests all that is flawed, sadness, sorrow, humiliation, defeat, loss, despair, rejection, and loneliness.  But this form reflects the fact that we all fight these negative aspects of ourselves and understand them with patience and overcome these difficulties.  Goddess Dhumavati keeps the devotees away from these things and gives her blessings to provide stability and happiness to their life.
