Ganesh Chaturthi 2024 Know the importance and story
Ganesh Chaturthi, occurring on the Chaturthi tithi of the bright half of the Magh month, marks a significant occasion dedicated to the veneration of Lord Ganesha. Referred to as Til Chaturthi and Ganesh Jayanti, this day holds immense importance in Hindu traditions, inviting devotees to partake in the worship rituals and delve into the sacred story behind its inception.
Chaturthi Puja Vidhi: As per the Hindu calendar, the auspicious Chaturthi tithi of both the waxing and waning phases of the lunar month is dedicated to the worship of Lord Ganesha. Believed to bestow all forms of prosperity and happiness upon devotees, the worship of Ganesha holds profound significance. The observance of Ganesh Chaturthi in the month of Magh entails meticulous rituals and mantra recitations, invoking the divine blessings of the revered deity.
According to tradition, the auspicious time for initiating Ganesh Puja and chanting Ganesha mantras begins at dawn. Devotees purify themselves through a ceremonial bath and don clean attire before commencing the worship. Seated in reverence before the idol of Lord Ganesha, devotees anoint the deity with holy Ganga water, offering prayers not only to Ganesha but also to his divine parents, Lord Shiva and Mother Gauri. The observance of Ganesh Chaturthi heralds blessings of auspiciousness and prosperity bestowed by the benevolent Lord upon his devotees.
The Legend of Chaturthi: The narrative surrounding the birth of Lord Ganesha is steeped in ancient folklore, echoing through generations. According to this tale, Goddess Parvati, desiring a guardian for her abode, fashioned a son from the fragrant earth and endowed him with life. Entrusting him with the task of safeguarding her sanctuary, Ganesha dutifully followed her orders, barring even Lord Shiva from entering. Enraged by the denial, Lord Shiva beheaded Ganesha in a fit of anger. Witnessing her son's plight, Parvati's grief transformed into fury. To assuage her anguish, Lord Shiva resurrected Ganesha, replacing his severed head with that of an elephant. Thus, Ganesha, also known as Gajanan, was born on the auspicious Chaturthi day, elevating the significance of this date in his worship.
Ganesh Chaturthi Mantras and Blessings: The culmination of Ganesh Chaturthi rituals involves the chanting of sacred mantras and the rendition of aarti dedicated to Lord Ganesha. Devotees are blessed with prosperity, knowledge, and the fulfilment of cherished desires, experiencing the divine grace of the beloved Elephant God on this sacred occasion.
