Religious Significance of Jitiya Vrat
According to mythology, during the time of Mahabharata, Ashwatthama tried to kill the child born in the womb of Abhimanyu's wife Uttara to fulfill his revenge. When Ashwatthama destroyed the child born in Uttara's womb with Brahmastra, Lord Krishna revived the unborn child of Uttara. The day that Lord Shri Krishna made Uttara's child alive in the womb was the Ashtami of the Krishna Paksha of the month of Ashwin. Since then, for the wish of the long life of the child, Jivitputrika was kept. It is believed that the special grace of Lord Krishna showers on the children of the women who keep this fast with full rituals. By observing this fast, the age of the child increases and he leads a healthy and happy life.
