Karak Chaturthi is celebrated in many forms. It is celebrated on a large scale in North India by most of the Indian Hindu married women. Shri Ganesh Puja is also performed on this day. Unmarried girls can also observe this fast. All men and women celebrate this day with devotion. There is a tradition of fasting for the whole day on the day of Karak Chaturthi. The fast of Karak Chaturthi has great importance. This auspicious day is also known as Karak Chaturthi. During Karak Chaturthi, women observe Nirjala fast for the happiness and prosperity of their husbands. Apart from this, this fast is also observed for happiness and prosperity. There is a tradition of worshipping Lord Ganesha, Goddess Parvati, Lord Shiva and Kartikeya in Karak Chaturthi. Along with this, this fast is broken after seeing the moon on this day.
Karak Chaturthi Puja Rituals and Significance
The festival of Karak Chaturthi is celebrated on the Chaturthi day of Krishna Paksha of Kartik month. On this auspicious occasion of Karak Chaturthi, auspicious results are achieved by fasting and worshipping. Karak Chaturthi is also worshipped with full rituals. Fast is observed in many forms on this day. This fast has been observed on Chaturthi since Brahma Kaal. On this day one should wake up early in the morning and take a bath, after that wear clean clothes and light a lamp in the temple.
After this one should bow to God. During this time, it is auspicious to worship Shri Vishnu, Tulsi, Lord Shiva, Goddess Parvati and Lord Ganesha. Along with worship, a resolution should be taken to keep the fast. Worship should be done with them only. During the fast, the stars and the moon are worshipped after the moonrise at night. After the completion of the puja, one should pray to God for the happiness of one's life and complete the fast.
In Karak Chaturthi puja, worship is done keeping in mind all kinds of things. An earthen pot is very important on this day. Along with this, vermillion, sandalwood, akshat, roli, fruits, flowers and bhog are kept for worship. Puja should be done by keeping all the things in the puja plate. Puri, Halwa and Modak must be used to offer food to God. The puja is completed by worshipping the idol of Gauri-Ganesh.
