Karva Chauth story
Long ago, a moneylender had seven sons and one daughter. Being the sister of seven brothers, she was loved by all. Everyone observed the fast of Karva Chauth on the Chaturthi date of Krishna Paksha of Kartik month. All seven daughters-in-law and sisters also observed the fast of Karva Chauth. At night, when all the brothers sat down to eat, he did not see his sister's condition. He requested his sister to have food, but the sister said that today she is fasting on Karva Chauth and will eat something only after seeing the moon. Seeing their sister's face distraught with hunger, all of them felt very sad, then seeing the condition of their sister, the brothers made a plan.
He went out of the city and climbed a tree and lit a fire there and after coming back home he told his sister that the moon had come out and he too could offer Arghya and eat food. When the sister asked her sisters-in-law to have a darshan of the moon, the sisters-in-law said that the moon had not yet risen, but the sister ignored her sister-in-law and broke her fast by worshipping the fake moon.
Due to this act, her husband was in trouble and then the brothers told their mistake to their sister and the sister felt very repentant. He prayed to God and again started the Chaturthi fast as per the rituals. She completed her fast by worshipping the Moon and offering Arghya to the Moon. Through this act, her husband got life and he started living a happy life. Since then, the fast of Karva Chauth has been observed with devotion to the happy life of the husband.
