Kharmas 2024: Important Do's and Don'ts According to Hindu Beliefs
In Hinduism, the period of Kharmas holds significant importance, where certain activities are advised against due to astrological considerations. This year, Kharmas coincides with the transition of the Sun into the Pisces zodiac sign, affecting auspicious events.
From March 14th to April 13th, all auspicious ceremonies are postponed during this time. While religious rituals like prayers and havans are permissible, any ventures deemed fortunate or propitious are discouraged.
What Not to Do During Kharmas:
- Avoid organizing any auspicious events during Kharmas.- Refrain from bidding farewell to daughters or daughters-in-law during this period.
- Postpone ceremonies like housewarming, weddings, or mundan (head-shaving) ceremonies during Kharmas.
- It's advised not to make significant purchases such as land, jewelry, vehicles, or household items during Kharmas.
- Consumption of certain foods like carrots, radishes, oil, rice, sesame, bathua, moong beans, dry ginger, and amla is discouraged during this time.
- According to scriptures, abstain from consuming tamasic (heavy and dulling) foods during Kharmas, including garlic, onions, meat, and alcohol.
Guidelines to Follow:
- Sun worship holds immense significance during Kharmas, thus offering water to the Sun daily is encouraged.- Sleeping on the ground instead of a cot or bed is recommended during this period.
- Eating meals in a thali (plate) rather than a plate is considered preferable as per scriptures.
- This month is ideal for engaging in worship, chanting, fasting, and other spiritual practices.
- Maintain purity and avoid harboring ill feelings towards others during Kharmas.
- Worshiping Lord Vishnu and regularly performing Tulsi (holy basil) puja is auspicious during this time.
By adhering to these guidelines, one can navigate through Kharmas while honoring the traditions and beliefs of Hinduism, fostering spiritual growth and harmony.
