What is Shiva Chaturdashi?

Shiva who is ‘unborn’, has neither beginning nor end. Shiva is known to have knowledge of the superlatives. The performance (Leela) of Shiva is incomparable. This day is known as a day to please Lord Shiva and this festival has its own importance as that of Ganesh Chaturthi. Those people who worship Lord Shiva with full believe and devotion get the immense blessings of Shiva and their wishes will also be fulfilled.

According to Hindu Scriptures, Chaturdashi date of Krishna Paksha of every month is considered to be the day of Shivaratri. Lord Shiva is considered as the Lord of Chaturdashi Tithi. On this day, along with the worship of Lord Shiva, all the members of the Shiva family are also worshiped. Worshiping Lord Shiva help to get the happiness and peace.

On this day, offering flowers to Shiva and chanting Shiva's mantras has the special importance. On this day, by worshiping Shiva with complete rituals and mantras, a person gets the freedom from the bondage of anger, greed and attachment.

While worshiping Lord Shiva on the day of Shiva Chaturdashi one should chant the following mantras: Shiva Panchakshari Mantra - 'Om Namah: Shivaay'. Chanting a garland daily.

When facing a difficult problem in life, one should chant the following mantra, facing east or north with full respect 1 lakhs times. - 'Om Namah Shivaya Shubham Shubham Kuru Kuru Shivaya Namah'. This mantra helps to stay away from the biggest problem and disturbance.

Mahamrityunjaya mantra should be chanted for liberation from all sufferings - 'Om Hoom Joom Sah Om bhurbhuva Swa trimbakya yajamhe sugandhin Pushtivardhanam urvarukamiv bandhanaan mrutmaksa mamrutata Om swa bhuvu bhu juum hoom Om’. Chant a garland daily.
