Navratri 2023 2nd Day: Sharadiya Navratri is worshipped in the Shukla Paksha of Ashwin month. This year Navratri puja will be performed from 15th October to 24th October. On the second day of Navratri, Maa Brahmacharini, the second form of Navadurga, is worshipped. He is called by this name because of his rigorous penance and meditation.

Mother Brahmacharini story
According to Devi Bhagwat Purana, Prajapati Daksh organized a huge yagya. He sent invitations to all the gods and goddesses but did not invite his son Lord Shiva and daughter Sati. But Goddess Sati went to her father's Yagya ceremony and being angry at the insult of her husband Lord Shiva, she destroyed the Yagya there. He sacrificed his life by burning himself in the sacrificial fire, after which he was born in the house of the mountain king Himalaya and then he performed rigorous penance to attain Lord Shiva again. By performing rigorous penance she again got Lord Shiva as her husband. This yoga of penance of the mother creates this form of her.

Importance of mother brahmachari
The second form of Maa Durga in Navratri puja is that of Brahmacharini. They are worshipped on the second day of Navratri. Brahma means penance and Charini means conduct of penance. Mother Brahmacharini who practices penance is the one who bestows happiness on everyone.
