The Hindi month of Shravan is a very auspicious month of Panchang, this entire month is dedicated to Lord Shiva and Goddess Shakti. Devotees observe Shravan Monday fast on every Monday and Mangala Gauri Vrat is observed on Shravan Tuesday. It is said that Mata Parvati kept innumerable fasts to get Shiva and one of them was Mangala Gauri Vrat. Women especially keep this fast to seek blessings for the long life of their husbands while unmarried girls keep this fast to get a good husband.

Mangala Gauri Vrat is specially observed by married women to get marital happiness from Goddess Gauri. The fast is also known as Sri Mangala Gauri Vratam in Andhra Pradesh, Telangana and rest of South India. This fast is very important for Hindu devotees as it is believed that worshiping Goddess Gauri wholeheartedly in this month brings happiness, success and prosperity to people. Lord Shiva's wife is pleased by observing fast on all Tuesdays during the holy month.



Mangala Gauri fasting date
The first Mangala Gauri Vrat was observed on 19th July and this week it will be the second Mangala Gauri Vrat which will fall on 26th July. Third Mangala Gauri Vrat will be celebrated on 2nd August and fourth Mangala Gauri Vrat will be celebrated on 9th August.

Mangala Gauri Vrat and Worship Method
Women who observe Mangala Gauri fast, they do the rituals of worship after taking bath. On this day first of all, the idol or picture of Mangala Gauri is decorated with red cloth and kept in the temple. After this, nine planets made of rice and sixteen deities made of wheat are installed on the plate. Where a kalash is also kept. The goddess is worshiped by offering water, milk, curd, roli, sandalwood, vermilion, henna and kajal, bangles, dry fruits, betel nut and cloves. After this, Mangala Gauri Vrat Katha is narrated and recited. The worship is completed with offerings. Those who observe fast, they eat only once a day.

Significance of Mangala Gauri Vrat
Along with Shravan, Mangala Gauri Vrat started on 19th July and will end on 09th August. The fast is observed on every Tuesday in the month of Shravan. Shiva and Shakti are worshiped jointly on this day. According to the beliefs, when Shakti took the form of Parvati, she did severe penance to get Lord Shiva and her strict fast was dedicated to her. They get Lord Shiva in the form of husband. Therefore, whoever wants to get happiness in married life on the auspicious day of Sawan, must observe this fast. By the auspicious results of this fast, a person also gets rid of the problems of his married life and life becomes happy.
