After mixing milk, curd, ghee, honey, and sugar separately, bathe the shivling in Panchamrit and anoint it with water. In the worship of the four Prahars, one should chant the Shiva Panchakshar Mantra, i.e., Om Namah Shivay, along with which flowers should be offered to the eight names of Bhava, Sharva, Rudra, Pashupati, Ugra, Mahan, Bhima, and Ishaan, and perform aarti and circumambulation of Lord Shiva.
Evening time is very auspicious for the worship of the first prahar, night time for the worship of the second prahar, and midnight for the worship of the third prahar. Along with this, the entire monthly Shivratri worship should be completed by night vigil. The fast should be broken the next morning after taking baths, etc., and worshipping Lord Shankar.
