The story behind Mohini Ekadashi:
As per mythological beliefs, there was a beautiful city named Bhadravati near the Saraswati river. There was a King called Dhritimana, who ruled this place who was a devotee of Lord Vishnu. He had five sons, the fifth son was Dhritabuddhi, he was a sinner & was involved in very bad activities and sinful acts. By watching all this, King Dhritishman gave up on Dhritibuddhi. To survive, he involved himself in acts like robbery. As a result, he was kicked out of the state. Then Dhrishtbuddhi used to live in a forest, once when he was wandering in the forest, he reached the ashram of guru Kaundinya. It was the time of Vaishakh month and the sage Kaundinya was taking bath, A few drops came out and fell on Dhrishtbuddhi. Because of this, Drishtibuddhi gained good sense and thus leave all sinful activities. He requested the Guru to guide him towards the path of liberation from his sinful activities. For this, the sage asked him to observe Mohini Ekadashi fast, so that he could get rid of all sins which he has done prior. On Ekadashi, Dhritabuddhi kept Ekadashi fast with full devotion. Because of the fast, all his sins were diminished, and he reached Vishnu Loka.
