 Who is Karni Mata after all?

 In the Bikaner, Karni Mata is known as Maa Karni, Mahai and Dadhali Dokri i.e. Bearded Old Mother.  There is a religious belief about Karni Mata that she was born as Ridhubai in the Charan caste.  Whose worship is done by the people of the Charan family.  Mother is believed to be the goddess of Hindu warriors, who is worshiped by her devotees as Hinglaj Devi.  The original temple of Hinglaj Mata, one of the 51 Shaktipeeths, is located in Pakistan.

 There is a different belief about rats at this place.  No one bothers about the rats at this place.  There is a belief , about thousands of rats roaming in the temple of Karni Mata that whenever a barn dies, it is reborn as a rat.  This is the reason that no one bothers rats. 

 Rats' first right on Prasad

 Usually everyone is scared of rats and no one wants to eat their leftover.  Rats have the first right on the offerings in the temple of Karni Mata.  After offering bhog to the mother, first the bhog is given to the rats, then it is given as prasad to the devotees of the mother.  The special thing is that everyone accepts it with respect.

 Rats are  considered good luck

 Generally everyone is scared of rats.  But thousands of rats reside in the temple of Karni Mata.  Thousands of rats roaming in the temple of Mata are called Kaaba.  The special thing is that neither these rats bother anyone nor does anyone bother them.  There is also some white mouse among the thousands of rats.  Which is considered very auspicious to see.  White rats are not easily visible to anyone and whoever  see, consider that the mother has blessed them.All these rats are known as servants of mother karni who always take care  of her.
