Every year the Rath Yatra of Lord Jagannath is taken out on the second date of Shukla Paksha of Ashadh month. Only by participating in this yatra one gets the virtue equivalent to 100 yagyas. Let us tell you some unheard and interesting information related to this Rath Yatra.

There is a huge temple of Lord Jagannath in the city of Puri in the state of Odisha. It is considered one of the four major Dhams of India. Every year the Yatra of Lord Jagannath is taken out on the second day of Shukla Paksha of Ashadh month. During the Rath Yatra, Lord rides on different huge chariots and goes to Gundicha temple from his abode. Out of these three chariots, the sister Subhadra in the middle of the chariot and the idols of Shri Krishna and Balarama in the adjacent chariot. These idols are made of a special type of wood. To participate in the Rath Yatra of Lord Jagannath, his devotees come from far and wide. And there is a gathering of devotees. It is believed that those who participate in this yatra get merit equivalent to 100 yagyas. People attain salvation after death. This time Lord Jagannath's journey will be taken out on July 1, I will tell you on this occasion, all the interesting things related to this journey.

Interesting information related to Jagannath Yatra:-

The temple of Lord Jagannath is more than 800 years old. Lord Krishna is seated in this temple with his sister Subhadra and brother Balarama. Here Shri Krishna is known and worshiped as Jagannath, along with him brother Balarama and sister Goddess Subhadra are also worshipped.


Every year, about 15 days before the Rath Yatra, Lord Jagannath falls ill and remains ill for 15 days. During illness, Lord Jagannath stays in seclusion. After recovering, the Lord gives darshan to the devotees and after this a grand Rath Yatra is taken out.


There are 3 chariots in this yatra, the chariot running at the fore is that of Balarama, in the middle is the chariot of Subhadra Devi and at the back is Lord Jagannath ji. Darpadalana, is called and the chariot of Lord Jagannath is called 'Nandighosh', or 'Garudadhwaja,'.
All these gems are identified on the basis of colours. The color of the flag is red and green. 'Darpadalana is black and red or blue and red in color and Nandighosh's color is red and yellow. The tallest is Nandighosh Ratha, its height is 45.6 feet, followed by Balarama's Taladhwaj Rath 45 feet high and Goddess Subhadra's 'Darpadalan Rath' is 44.6 feet high.

The preparations for Rath Yatra are started from the day of Akshaya Tritiya. All the chariots are made from pure and mature neem wood called 'daru'. No thorns or any other metal is used for the construction of these chariots.

With the sound of drums, drums and conch shell, this Rath Yatra begins on the second day of Shukla Paksha of Ashadh month. Return back to main temple on Tithi.
It is believed that pulling the chariot during the Rath Yatra destroys all the sins of a person and he attains the virtue and salvation of 100 births, the person pulling the chariot is considered fortunate.
