According to the legend, the elder son of King Mahishmat was always immersed in misdeeds. Used to condemn Gods and Goddesses. Seeing the sins and misdeeds of his elder son, King Mahishmat, who was always engaged in wrongdoings, named him Lumbhak. After this, he was expelled from his kingdom. After being expelled from the state, he was living in the forest and earning his living by eating non-vegetarian food and fruits.

Once Lumbhak suffered due to extreme cold, that day was the tenth day of Krishna Paksha of Pausha month. The next day was Saphala Ekadashi. On the afternoon of Ekadashi, Lumbhak regained consciousness due to the glory of the Sun God. When hungry and thirsty Lumbhak collected fruits for food, the sun had already set. Then he placed those fruits at the root of the Peepal tree and prayed that whatever he had now, he was offering it with devotion only to Him. Unknowingly, Lumbhak observed this fast, due to which all his sins would be destroyed. Go there and he gets happiness in life.
