For Hindus, Skanda Shashthi is a significant event because it honors Lord Skanda, the deity of war and the son of Shiva and Parvati. Murugan, Kartikeya, and Subramanya are some of the names given to Lord Skanda. Every month, on the Shashthi Tithi of Shukla Paksha, this celebration is held. Skanda is revered by Tamil Hindus as the younger brother of Lord Ganesha, who is worshipped in South India. In North India, he is referred to as Ganesha's older brother.

2022 Skanda Shashthi: Meaning:
Devotees believe that those who conduct puja and vrat on Shashthi Day would receive benefits. Lord Skanda is also famed for slaying the demons Tarakasur and Simhamukh.
Lord Skanda is a popular Hindu deity among Tamil Hindus. Skanda is the younger brother of Lord Ganesha and is the son of Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati. Lord Skanda is also known as Murugan, Karthikeyan, and Subramanya. Kanda Sashti is another name for Skanda Sashti. Between dawn and dusk, Panchami Tithi or Shashthi Tithi begins, and later on this day, Panchami and Shashthi are conjugated for the Skanda Shashthi Vrat. Many Murugan temples in Tamil Nadu, such as Sri Subrahmanya Swamy Devasthanam in Tiruchendur, are referenced in Dharmasindhu and Nisana Sindhu.
Lord Murugan is said to have killed Sorapadman, his brothers Tarakasur and Simhamukha, as well as the Shukla Paksha Shashti tithi, a sign of his triumph. Lord Murugan is supposed to have slain him with his Vel or Lance weapon. Soorpadman was executed by beheading. A peacock became his vehicle, and a rooster became the emblem on his flag, both of which sprang from the severed head. Devotees pay their worship to the Lord by vrat or vrat on the day of Skanda Shashthi to destroy the demon and restore peace.

Rituals of the Skanda Shashthi
Devotees get up early on this day, bathe, worship Lord Murugan, and fast for the whole day. They present him with an oil lamp, incense sticks, flowers, and kumkum, among other things. Some devotees may pay a visit to a temple to worship. The vrat begins at sunrise and is broken the next morning, according to the custom. Additionally, the technique of fasting varies by individual, as some individuals vrat for the entire day while others just fast for a portion of the day.
Panchami Tithi or Shashti Tithi begins between dawn and dusk, and both Panchami and Shashthi are subsequently conjugated for Skanda Shashthi vrat on this day. It is stated in Dharmasindhu and Nisana Sindhu, where various Murugan temples may be found in Tamil Nadu, including the Sri Subrahmanya Swamy Devasthanam in Tiruchendur.

Rituals in Skanda Shashthi 2022
