HISTORY OF TEMPLE :-

It is believed that this temple was built by Lord Parashuram himself. Lord Parashurama was an avatar of Lord Vishnu. This temple is 1000 years old, so there is no accurate evidence about its origin. According to Malayalam historian VVK Walath, this temple was once a former Dravidian Kavu (Dev Sthal). The temple later came under the influence of new religious sects that came into existence after the sixth century, including Buddhism, Jainism, and Vaishnavism.

The story of the origins of the Vadakkunnathan temple is briefly described in the Brahmanda Purana, in addition to this there is a lot of information about this temple in other contexts. Most historians believe that this temple was built by Lord Pashuram.

After Lord Pashuram's massacre, he performed a yajna to purify himself and balance his karma, after which he gave all the land to the Brahmins in the form of Dakshina. He then requested Varuna, the god of the sea, to provide him with a piece of land on the sea side for penance. After which he got a land, which is now Kerala. Lord Parashuram built the first Vadakkunnathan temple on this land. After this, he had built many more temples. This is also the reason why this temple is considered important.
