Somnath is the abode of Shri Nathji:-
This place is considered important according to history. Apart from being an important place for Lord Shiva's worship, this place is also considered very special for Krishna devotees. It is said that Shri Krishna killed and ended the Yadu dynasty here. Worshipping here in the month of Sawan is considered very fruitful and auspicious.

According to the Puranas, the churning of the ocean or also called Samudra Mantha was a very important event. The churning of the milky ocean i.e. Samudra Manthan took place in the month of Shravan in search of nectar the 'Amrit'. During the churning, 14 different rubies emerged from the ocean. Thirteen rubies were divided between the Devas and the Asuras, however, Halahal, the 14th ruby, remained untouched as it was the deadliest poison that could destroy the entire universe and every living being. Lord Shiva. then drank the Halahal and kept the poison in his throat. Due to the effect of poison, his throat turned blue and due to this he is known as 'Neelkanth'.
