Thirteen gems were distributed among the gods and demons, but the 14th gem, Halahal (poison), remained untouched as it was the deadliest venom capable of destroying all life. Lord Shiva drank the Halahal and held the poison in his throat, turning it blue and earning the name Neelkanth.
