According to the legend according to religious texts, once Yudhishthira expressed his desire to know about the importance of Ekadashi of Krishna Paksha of Bhadrapada month to Lord Shri Krishna, then Shri Krishna fulfills his wish and told him in detail about this Ekadashi. It is said that Bhadrapada Krishna Ekadashi is known as Aja Ekadashi.

King Harishchandra got the fruit of Aja Ekadashi
Once upon a time there was a Chakravarti king named Harishchandra who was famous for his truth. One day the sage took his test and for this reason he left his kingdom, wife, children and himself to get rid of debt. sell. King Harishchandra started working with a Chandal and used to take the clothes of the dead. He always walked on the path of truth. When he was in solitude, he kept thinking of the way to get rid of these sorrows. He wondered whether to do such a thing, so that he could be saved.

He was engaged in this work for a long time. One day he was sitting worried, when Gautam Rishi came there. The king bowed to him. He told Gautam Rishi about his sorrows and started asking for the way of salvation from it. The sage said that you are lucky because after 7 days from today Bhadrapada Krishna Ekadashi i.e. Aja Ekadashi fast is going to come. You should do this fast properly. You will be well. After saying this, Gautam Rishi left from there.

After seven days, that king kept a fast on Aja Ekadashi and worshiped Lord Vishnu as per the instructions of the sage and did night awakening. The next day, the fast is completed by doing Parana in the morning. By the grace of Lord Vishnu, all his sins were destroyed and he got freedom from sorrows. Flowers started raining from heaven. He saw that his dead son was alive again and his wife looked like a queen as before. Due to the virtuous effect of this fast, he got his kingdom again. At the end of his life, he got a heavenly place along with his family. This was the effect of the virtuous fruit of Aja Ekadashi fasting.
