Dattatreya Jayanti is considered one of the most important days. Dattatreya Jayanti is celebrated on the full moon day of the month of Marshish. Lord Dattatreya was born on this auspicious day. According to Hindu scriptures, Lord Dattatreya is considered to be the epitome of Brahma, Vishnu and Mahesh. At some places, Lord Dattatreya is also considered as an incarnation of Lord Vishnu. Temples are decorated, bhajan-kirtan is organized in all the temples. At some places, people also recite Avadhoot Gita and Jeevanmukta Gita.
On the day of Dattatreya Jayanti, the idol of Lord Dattatreya should be installed on a white pedestal. After this, Lord Dattatreya should be anointed with Gangajal. After this light incense, ghee lamp and offer flowers, sweets and fruits to Lord Dattatreya. Keep in mind that only white colored flowers and fruits should be offered in worship. Chanting the mantras of Lord Dattatreya on the day of Dattatreya Jayanti is considered very fruitful. Reciting Bhagwat Gita on this day gives freedom from Pitridosh. By reciting Dattatreya Stotra after worshiping according to the rules and regulations, the grace of Lord Dattatreya remains.
