Lord Ganesha is called by many names, Lord Ganesha is the son of Lord Shiva and Mother Parvati. Shri Ganesh ji is married to Riddhi and Siddhi. While we know many things about Lord Ganesha, there are some things that always confuse us. Like the trunk on Lord Ganesha. Why is it sometimes bent to the right of the Lord, sometimes to the left and sometimes straight? Does it depend on imagination? Or is there a deeper significance behind it? Also, there are very few right curves, so if it doesn't matter which side the trunk is on, why is there such a distinction? The reason is not that simple. The trunk of Lord Ganesha is a symbol of many things and the way in which it is curved is a symbol of what the idol of Lord Ganesha represents and the way of worshiping it.

Trunk left and be

Most of the householders always buy the idol with trunk on the left side. The trunk bent to the left is called Vammukhi. The left side of Lord Ganesha is believed to have the qualities of Moon, which makes that side peaceful and blissful. Also, that side signifies material gains and prosperity and thus, householders always keep the idol of the left trunk as it is believed that it bestows them with prosperity. Ganesha with the left trunk is also believed to purify the house and help in correcting the existing Vastu defects.

Right trunk
The right proboscis is not very common and is almost rare. The Ganesh idols with the right trunk are worshiped with pomp and devotion. The trunk on the right side is called Siddhi Vinayaka. Siddhi, one of the wives of Ganapati resides on his right side and hence, the idol with the trunk curved on the right is called Siddhi Vinayaka. Just as the trunk on the left is a symbol of prosperity, similarly the trunk on the right is a symbol of liberation from all worldly pleasures and attainment of salvation.

Straight trunk
It is very rare and rarely found. But it also has a deeper significance. This means that the susuma nadi is now open and there is complete unity among all the senses of the body and the divinity is complete. Are completely weight free and completely transparent? This type of Ganapati should also be worshipped, although the worship is not as rigid as that of the right trunked Ganesha and can be worshiped normally. This type of Ganesha's trunk has many meanings which gives very rare results.
